BIO

Dan Corlis lives at the foot of the beautiful Big Horn mountains in Sheridan, Wyoming, where he and his wife Rita have raised two children. Dan first started working with wood over 16 years ago, when he decided to make Christmas presents instead of buying them one year. Family members and friends quickly realized his natural talent and encouraged him to continue. He began getting custom orders from the community as his work became recognized. Dan also took art classes at the local college to gain a better understanding of drawing, form and perspective. Dan has built everything from full custom kitchens, sideboards, living room sets, buffet cabinets, hand carved mirrors, children's toys and jewelry boxes. He draws inspiration from many other artists, woodworkers and from nature. He particularly enjoys Asian and American 'arts and crafts' styles.For the past 10 years, Dan has turned out all of his custom woodwork products from a tiny, 10 x 10 shop. Each unique piece is created through painstaking thought, multiple drawings, client interaction and inspiration from the world around him. Every piece of wood is hand selected for its unique characteristics. Whether a client has a specific drawing of what they need or merely an idea, Dan goes through much the same process. He believes it is essential to exceed client expectations. In order to achieve this goal, interaction and communication with each customer is an integral part of each custom piece. While pieces can be created for that special occasion, quality always comes first; Dan will not compromise the caliber of his work to meet a deadline. A creation by Dan is well worth the wait. Hand-Carved Gypsy Wagon

This is an image of the original gypsy wagon

slide 3 In collaboration with Ranch Willow Wagons, Dan was asked to re-create the carved foliage and floral pattern on a rustic gypsy wagon. Along with hand-carving the tall alder panels, he also created the framework for the doors and windows.Ranch Willow Wagons painted and assembled the wagon which was fully furnished with bathroom, heat and air to be used as a fantastic bedroom for a lucky girl.The final product stood 7'X27'X10'3"

The Perfect Wedding Gift

Dan was recently commisioned to create a custom name plaque as a wedding gift. This design was hand-carved into alder and details were added through wood burning and burnished colored pencils. Lady Bugs and baseball bats were incorporated into the design to represent the bride and groom, respectively. Our congrats to the new couple!

Wood Burning

Dan has been incorporating wood burning more and more into his designs allowing for him to add depth and dimension to his artwork. Here are a few recent samples
